Experience

After nine years in the communications field as a staff writer and journalist  - first for a daily newspaper in North Carolina and a weekly in the local area, Mrs. Brewster switched careers to education. She began her secondary teaching career at Tazewell High School in 2001. In 2002, she came to Graham High to teach English 10 and Tech Prep English 9. She moved on to AP English Literature and Composition in 2003 and also became sponsor of The Writers' Society. The Writer's Society has helped to encourage several young writers to enter and receive state honors and individual championships in the VHSL Creative Writing competition and the school has earned honors in the VHSL Literary Magazine competition over the years. Mrs. Brewster also coaches cheerleading, having been with football and competition cheer since 2001 and worked from 2001 to 2006 with basketball cheerleading. She was honored to coach the Graham's 2016 2A State Competition Cheer Team this past year - the first such championship for a school west of Roanoke. Mrs. Brewster has coached several UCA award-winning sideline cheer teams, All-Americans, and three top-five VHSL State Cheer Teams.



Bio

Mrs Brewster is a native of southwest Virginia. In fact, she is the third generation of four that have graduated from Graham High. Her grandmother graduated from GHS in 1927, her father in 1956, herself in 1986, and her oldest daughter in 2004. She lived away from the area for several years before returning while working in journalism. She loves to see students excel in their writing ability, make connections in literary studies and discussions, and grow as learners excited to explore more of the world. Mrs. Brewster's husband is also in education and has degrees from Bluefield College, Radford University, and Virginia Tech. Her oldest daughter is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and lives in Richmond. Her second. She loves jazz music, reading, summer time, animals, and positive people.
